I couldn't make this up.
I.just.walked.home.from.thirty.forth.street.and.eighth.avenue.
that is 7 miles to home. ya know out here in the hood. here is the recap of my adventure.
well it all started when i decided to pop above ground to pick up a bridesmaid dress. i walked down a little to the one and only David's Bridal, and just decided to continue walking. walking home has been something i have been wanting to do, and tonight with no plans and a nice temperature it seemed like an opportune time.
so the walking just kept going and going. i just kept seeing subway stations pass by me right and left. i walked through the washington square park, which is a common highlight in the city. with interesting people and musicians and beautiful fountain and big bubbles it was a nice summer nite. i knew if i could make it to canal street i could make it to the bridge.
but first, i went to sephora, then i met my friend nate for in soho, as i was walking through town. he looked up how far it was on his iphone and i said if its less than 2 hours i am doing it. and it was. so i did. so we split ways. he went to work out at his new gym that he will be paying a pretty penny for and i just walked home...
so i ventured through canal street making my way to the manahattan bridge. which i had never walked across. it seemed like there was something going on as a helicopter hovered over pier 17 and photographers lined up on the bridge and the land below. however i have no info.
walking in brooklyn is always a little confusing. there is no rhyme or reason to most of the streets and because i don't know which way is north in this city (an utter conundrum to me) it is a little hard to get my bearings in new places in brooklyn. so i did have to ask someone to make sure i was on the right track. and i just kept going. walking down dean street was tempting since that is where i could have easily caught the bus. but actually it was flying by as i was coming up to it, so i just made my way to good ole st marks ave and walked the avenues home.
one funny thing about that is that in the first week of nikki and i living here, we got off 2 stops early on accident, and we walked home and thought it was soooo faaar. funny. look what can happen in 11 months. weird.
my legs feel like noodles, and i think i might have some walking blisters. but it was worth it. with short legs, distractions, detours, and pit stops it all took me 3.5 hours. what a way to spend a wednesday night. good thing i don't have a car.
