you thought to your self, "i cannot believe i live in dallas" or denton... i mean really where are you right now? and how long have you been there? and when was the last time you thought what am i doing here. how did i get here. i cant believe this is where i am.
call me crazy because i think this often. maybe it is because i have been in this place for such a short time. maybe it is because this place is so bazaar. really i just think it is rather amazing, that i can live in a place with so much going on all the time. i think this place is sensory overload, and it is hard for me to believe I LiVE HERe.
deep thought for saturday.
(setting) riding the bus across brooklyn with roommates going from brunch to park for nice saturday. looking out the window seeing places i have never seen before and taking it all in.
(thought) i cannot believe i live here. it seems like this would be a place where i would have come a year ago and been "out of my comfort zone" on a mission trip. in transit not really knowing where we are going just hoping to end up at the right place. now i live here and i do this everyday. and it is comfortable. in a good way. a safe, knowledgeable, trusting God kind of way.
so with that said, let me tell you why i currently live in the best place ON earth.
I live in brooklyn. urban america. culture teeming. along with people. but quaint. but loud. and ironically quiet at the same time. there are trees and cute light posts. it is wonderful. and right across the east river is a really big city. it is so big. so many things i could learn 100 things a day for the rest of my life and not master this city. the world's mecca for culture. fashion, theater, advertising, design, art, finance, education. the list clearly could go on. living here it is true that you have everything at your disposal. if you cant find it in new york city it doesnt exist. does that sound extreme? then just across the hudson to englewood new jersey, my next spot which i will become closely acquainted. the good thing about this is that it is the opportunity to get out of the hub bub and out into the burbs. daily. today i really liked this little place. i am sure there will be even more to enjoy as i get the chance to see the little town eventually. but so far there is a cute little grocery just around the corner. Jerry's is a small little specialty grocery with prepped food, deli, gourmet, beer/wine, health and beauty, cheap produce, good cheese (out for testers), chocolate, and diet coke. and all CHEAPER than the city. bonus. all in all quite the gem that reminded me very much of my beloved Cupboard in good ole denton. so here i am taking all three of these places in as much as i can. urban, burban, and the big poppa city.
BUT, it is still too far away. so although it is the best place on earth it could never be perfect.
i cant believe i live here....

i felt like that a lot in shanghai. sometimes I thought that if i were on another planet it couldn't possibly be more weird than living in shanghai. big citys are like that i think, "true" big citys. none of this dallas mess. if it doesn't have a decent public transit, it's not a true big city. that's what i think at least.
and now i'm back in denton. didn't really think i would be but god has his plans. i just hope long term i'm in a more interesting place.
